South-east facing hill site on the hill of Montefalco itself. The soil is clay-calcareous. 30ha of land, 18ha of which are vineyards. 4,000 vines/ha. Cordon. Also 5ha of olive groves. The remaining land is for cereal cultivation.
Napolini (or on this label Napo's) is a red blend of Sangiovese supported by Sagrantino, Ciliegiolo, Merlot, and Montepulciano from the area of Montefalco in Umbria. This is a warmer region that's more removed from the oceans influence and located south of Tuscany.
VINIFICATION: Hand picked during the last 10 days of September & the first 10 days of October. Fermentation occurs spontaneously during maceration on the skins, which lasts between 15-20 days. The wine is then aged in Stainless Steel fermentation tanks for 12 months, after which it is bottle aged for 3 more months before release.
TASTING NOTES: Full Bodied, dry Red Wine. Bright Ruby Color. This wine has vivid aromas of fresh Ripe Cherry & Raspberry. There's a Rustic warmth, w/ hints of Dried Red Fruits and Flowers. On the palate this wine has notes of rich Red Fruit, w/ hints of Wood Smoke, rustic Spice, Roasted Meat, Wild Herbs & bittersweet Chocolate. Big, assertive – but not aggressive – tannins lead to an impressive finish.
FOOD PAIRING: This wine begs for Pizza, Braised Beef or Game, Lamb, Rich & Hearty fare such as Ragu, Red Sauce Pastas, Hard & Aged Cheeses.
